This post is a continuation from the post Lessons from work - 01 

Just had a “farewell lunch” which the manager arranged to send off the intern which most will be leaving by the end of this week (except for me and the Canadian). 9 people attended this lunch, 4 interns, 4 supervisors plus the manager (heard that there are two interns missing – sick). The first meal I had with my supervisor – she had never attend the past celebrations in this semester due to various reasons.

Quite funny actually, recalling that I just wrote something about this few days back =)

At the first day of internship, my boss invited me to go for lunch together with some other employees and also interns. I rejected it. Instead, I went with those intern friends I know of from before we work at the company.

It was a mistake on my part. Honestly speaking. One simple “Sorry, I can’t” or “No” or “Next time” might means a lot for the long term. I didn’t grab the chance to know those people I’m going to work with from the first day, and in the end, I lost more chances at the following days.

No more lunch invitation afterwards…

Then as predicted, no more such invitation until now.

My attachment period is ending soon, and yet, I don’t think I really know most people around here – well, some people may say that it’s not that bad since it’s just an internship. However I believe, it would not be good if I practice the same attitude again after I start working next.

I think what Prof Seah’s said that time was correct – and I actually agreed with him:
“… think of industrial attachment as you are really working for the company. Don’t think as if you’re just doing to fulfill your degree requirement” (adapted, since I can’t really recall the exact phrases)

It’s just that I only stops at “agreeing” and not “living” it.

There is a similar value that is actually very familiar, but yet, not many people (especially me) have actually fully integrate it into their lives. It says:

” Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. “- Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

Although some may say, it’s for the company, it’s for the school, it’s for the club, the church, or even for myself, but still… do it as it’s for God – since He’s the one we are actually serving in this world.
